Job Summary

PPI Quality & Engineering is a global provider of quality assurance and inspection services supporting the energy industry. We are expanding our Quality Control team and are looking for experienced Coating Inspectors to support a major Pipe Mill project in Malaysia. All seamless pipe will be coated in Malaysia, near Kuantan, where our inspection team will provide quality coverage across the coating operations. A total of 4 Inspectors will be required, providing continuous inspection coverage across 2 shifts, with 2 inspectors per shift: • 1 Inspector per shift – Anti-Corrosion Coating • 1 Inspector per shift – Concrete Weight Coating (CWC) The position is part of a project currently planned for approximately 6 months, with the initial assignment planned for the end of October.

About the role

IMPORTANT: Candidates living locally or in the surrounding area of Kuantan, Malaysia, will be given priority.

As a Coating Inspector, you will provide quality inspection coverage during the assigned shift, ensuring that coating activities are performed in accordance with API 5L, project specifications, applicable industry standards, and PPI Quality & Engineering procedures.

You will work closely with the coating contractor, production teams, other inspectors and project stakeholders to monitor coating activities, perform and witness inspections and testing, identify deviations and ensure that coated pipes meet the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

The Coating Inspector will be responsible for providing inspection coverage across the coating operations, including:

• Inspection of Anti-Corrosion Coating activities
• Inspection of Concrete Weight Coating (CWC) activities
• Monitor coating application and production activities throughout the assigned shift
• Perform and witness inspection and testing activities in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements
• Verify coating materials, processes and application parameters against approved specifications and procedures
• Review inspection and testing results and identify any deviations or non-conformities
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of inspection reports and quality documentation
• Communicate inspection findings and quality issues to the Lead Inspector and relevant project stakeholders
• Support the identification, reporting and follow-up of quality issues and corrective actions
• Promote safe working practices and maintain a strong culture of quality, accountability and operational excellence

Do you have what it takes?

This position is ideal for an experienced Coating / QC Inspector with a strong background in industrial coating operations and the ability to work independently within a shift-based environment.

The ideal candidate must have:

Proven practical experience with API 5L – MANDATORY
• Proven experience as a Coating Inspector / QC Inspector in a Pipe Mill, fabrication or similar industrial environment
• Proven experience with Anti-Corrosion Coating inspection
• Experience with Concrete Weight Coating (CWC) is highly desirable
• Strong understanding of coating inspection, quality control and testing requirements
• Ability to monitor coating processes and identify deviations from approved specifications
• Experience reviewing inspection and testing results and preparing quality documentation
• Strong reporting, documentation and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with production teams, coating contractors, inspectors and project stakeholders
• Strong attention to detail, accountability and commitment to operational excellence
• Flexibility and willingness to work on a shift basis

⚠️ API 5L experience is a mandatory requirement for this position. Candidates without proven API 5L experience will not be considered.
