Job Summary

Kiwa PPI is seeking experienced Upstream Quality Control Specialists (QCS) to support third-party inspection activities throughout the Midland area. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience inspecting upstream oil and gas equipment and components, including OCTG, wellheads, engineered equipment, drilling and completion tools, downhole completion equipment (DHCE), drill pipe, mud motors, threading, and related products. Assignments may include ad hoc inspection work as well as potential full-time resident assignments based on project needs, qualifications, and prior work history.

Key Responsibilities

  • Witness inspections and testing in accordance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Quality Plans, applicable industry standards, supplier requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Perform surveillance of manufacturing, testing, assembly, and inspection activities.
  • Verify inspection, measurement, and test equipment is properly calibrated, certified, and suitable for the required scope.
  • Validate that technician certifications are current and appropriate for the activities being performed.
  • Witness and monitor activities such as NDE/NDT, FAT, assembly, dimensional inspection, testing, and final inspection.
  • Serve as the customer's representative while maintaining professional communication with suppliers regarding scheduling, deliveries, inspection status, and execution.
  • Identify and document nonconforming or unacceptable conditions.
  • Generate clear, concise, and accurate inspection reports documenting acceptance, rejection, observations, and activities performed.
  • Maintain effective communication with customers, suppliers, project personnel, and Kiwa PPI operations.

Do you have what it takes?

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of oil and gas industry experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of third-party inspection experience.
  • Level II NDT certification(s) from a recognized/accredited organization or completion of Level II NDT training with the ability to meet Kiwa PPI's NDT Qualification Written Practice requirements.
  • Strong technical knowledge within one or more upstream product areas, including:
    • OCTG
    • Wellheads
    • Drill pipe
    • Mud motors
    • Drilling and completion tools
    • Downhole completion equipment
    • Engineered equipment
    • Threading and connection inspection
  • Working knowledge of third-party inspection processes, including NDE/NDT, FAT, assembly inspection, manufacturing surveillance, and testing.
  • Familiarity with applicable industry codes, standards, and specifications such as API, ASNT, ASME, NACE/AMPP, DS-1, and related standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to produce professional and technically accurate inspection reports.
  • Basic computer skills, including spreadsheets and electronic reporting systems.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends when required by project schedules.
  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills in field and supplier inspection environments.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.

  • NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector Program (CIP) Level II or higher.

  • Additional NDT Level II certifications.

  • Previous experience representing major operators, drilling contractors, OEMs, or third-party inspection organizations.

     

Work Environment

  • This position involves inspection activities at supplier, manufacturing, fabrication, and service facilities. Work schedules will vary based on customer requirements and may include short-notice assignments, extended hours, weekends, and resident assignments.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working independently while representing Kiwa PPI and its clients in a professional, technically competent manner.
