Kiwa ET
Our Services
Kiwa ET is highly specialised in the development and testing of all hydrogen-related components and materials, from aerospace to automotive and industrial applications. With our extensive experience in liquid and high-pressure hydrogen, we can support your development from survey over prototype and certification to series production.
High-Pressure Hydrogen
One of the largest test facilities for high-pressure hydrogen
High-pressure hydrogen test services
- For complete systems, containers and components
- Closed hydrogen cycle
- Environmentally friendly, cost-saving, 24/7 operation
- Compared to a hydrogen filling station: more than 40,000 refuellings per year
Test conditions
- Standards: ISO, GTR, UNR, EC, SAE, etc.
- Temperature range: -40°C to +85°C (for special tests -80°C to +120°C)
- Pressure: up to 87.5 MPa (for special tests up to 105 MPa)
- Pre-conditioned gas: -40°C to +85°C (down to -80°C for special tests)
Tests
- Leak tests
- Permeation tests
- Functionality tests
- Cycle tests
- Hydrogen embrittlement tests
- Durability tests
- Burst tests
- Hydraulic tests
Liquid Hydrogen
Unique know-how and test facilities for liquid hydrogen.
Tests with LH2 and sLH2
- System function: refuelling, defuelling, hydrogen supply, insulation performance (dormancy), sensors, boil-off management, operation under tilt and roll conditions...
- Component function: valves, couplings (nozzle/receptacle), fittings, heat exchangers, sensors, pumps
- Safety: leak tests, hydraulic burst tests, rollover, loss of insulation vacuum...
- Material characterisation: temperature influence, hydrogen embrittlement, tensile tests, fatigue tests, fracture toughness, crack propagation...
Capacities for liquid hydrogen
- 300 m² test area
- 2 LH2 storage tanks (capacity: 1.7 tons)
- 3 fully equipped test stands
- Material characterisation in LH2 and under pressure up to 1,000 bar
Fuel Cell Testing and Development
Fully equipped fuel cell laboratories with a total power output of 1 MW.
Test items
- Systems
- Stacks (up to 200 kW)
- Components
Key data
- 700 m² of laboratory area
- 18 test stands
