Frequently Asked Questions
Are your assessments compliant with PAS 79 and BS 9792?
Yes — our team follows best practice methodologies set out within the guides but our advice would be tailored to your specific circumstances, using the guides as a baseline from which to build a solution.
Can you support Regulation 38 handover requirements?
Absolutely — we assist with compiling and verifying fire safety information for handover.
Do you provide all types of fire risk assessments in blocks of flats?
Yes – we can provide everything from a basic type 1 fire risk assessment all the way up to a targeted type 4 fire risk assessment. Our team hold the highest level of third-party recogniton as IFSM Tier-3 assessors, and our fire risk assessment system is fully certified at Gold level under the BAFE SP205 Scheme. That means that we can work on a very wide range of premises including those that many would deem too complex.
Can you deliver fire risk assessments in non-residential buildings?
Yes - In addition to extensive residential experience, we provide fire risk assessments across multiple sectors, including healthcare (clinics to hospitals), education (schools to universities), heritage sites, transport hubs, leisure and hospitality (bars, restaurants, hotels), commercial offices, and industrial facilities such as waste management and energy-from-waste plants.
Can you provide an FRAEW and EWS1 form?
Yes - we provide these documents all the time and have done since the requirement was first established. Not only that, we actively support the on-going development of these crucial documents by chairing an industry development forum, and by advising RICS on the documents’ on-going suitability.
My EWS1 form was issued by another fire engineer, can KFS do it this time?
Yes - absolutely. We would need to review whatever documentation that fire engineer issued at the time (e.g. site inspection report, external wall risk appraisal reports) and see whether that gives enough information about the building, or whether additional inspections would be required. Wherever possible, our renewal process will not include further invasive inspections.
Can you provide passive fire safety training?
Yes - If you have a need for training a group of your employees, we can develop and deliver a bespoke course. The training can cover whatever element of passive fire safety you want greater knowldege of – fire doors, passive fire safety seals, the construction of fire-resisting elements of compartmentation etc.
How can you help me on my construction site?
We can provide many Fire Risk Management services on your construction site. These include the delivery of fire risk assessments in accordance with HSG168 and the 10th Edition Code of Practice to help you keep people safe from fire; passive fire safety inspections that help ensure that whatever you had designed is being built and fitted correctly; inspections of the external walls towards ensuring you are either compliant with the Building Regulations, or will receive a proportionate FRAEW and delivery of EWS1 form.
