Job Summary

BASEC, part of the Kiwa UK Group, are seeking a High Voltage Technical Lead to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will provide technical expertise to support the High Voltage and Extra-High Voltage (HV/EHV) cables market globally. The position involves frequent national and international travel, and we welcome applications from candidates based in the UK, UAE, India, or Turkey.

About the role

 Testing & Inspection

  • Witness and perform HV/EHV cable and accessory testing (up to 500 kV) in line with international standards and project specifications.
  • Validate test procedures and verify test setups, instrumentation, and calibration.
  • Analyse test results, evaluate compliance, and prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Maintain accurate, traceable inspection and testing records.
  • Support the development and commissioning of new test rigs and facilities, ensuring safety protocols are followed.

Technical Expertise & Support

  • Lead and participate in technical discussions during quotation and project phases.
  • Provide technical support to commercial teams and assist with developing competitive quotations.
  • Respond to customer technical enquiries and provide guidance on HV/EHV cable systems.
  • Contribute technical content for marketing and represent BASEC at events, seminars, webinars, and industry committees.

ISO Accreditation & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17065 accreditation requirements.
  • Manage non-conformances, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities within the accredited scope.

Do you have what it takes?

Essential:

  • Degree (or equvalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience testing High Voltage (HV) and Extra-High Voltage (EHV) cable systems.
  • Strong knowledge of cable standards, systems design, schematic diagrams, sheath bonding and grounding.
  • Familiarity with ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems and laboratory accreditation.
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17020 and ISO/IEC 17065.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel regularly, both nationally and internationally.

Desirable:

  • Certified ISO/IEC 17020 Lead Auditor.
  • Experience with HVDC and submarine cables.
  • Background in HV/EHV cable system design (HVAC and HVDC).
  • Experience using CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce, Microsoft Dynamics).
  • Understanding of UKAS legislation and technical requirements.
  • Experience with cable modelling and analysis tools (e.g., CYMCAP, ampacity/thermal analysis).
  • Knowledge of HV/EHV cable accessories, joints, and terminations.
  • Health & Safety qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH, Electrical Safety Rules, First Aid).
